MATERIAL PROPERTIES OF ALUMINUM 7075 BAR, ROD AND SHAPES
Aluminum 7075 alloy roomtemperature material properties of rolled, drawn, or cold finished rod, bar and shapes are shown in the results chart
for
T6, T651, T73 and T7351 tempers. These properties are based
on material properties charts of aluminum 7075 rod, bar and shapes which are given in MMPDS01 (Metallic Materials Properties Development and Standardization).
Aluminum 7075 rod, bar and shapes material properties, which are given below, are tensile ultimate strength, tensile
/ compressive yield strengths, shear ultimate strength, bearing strength, Young's modulus,
shear modulus, Poisson's ratio and density.

Note*: For rolled, drawn, or coldfinished aluminum 7075; for round rod maximum diameter is 4 inches; for square bar, maximum size is 3½ inches; for rectangular bar, maximum thickness
is 3 inches with corresponding width of 6 inches; for rectangular bar less than 3 inches in thickness, maximum width is 10 inches.
Note *: For extrusion aluminum 7075, the mechanical properties are to be based upon the thickness at the time
of quench.

Definitions:
A Basis: The lower value of either the statistically calculated number T99, or the specification
minimum (Sbasis). T99 indicates that at least 99 percent of the population
is expected to equal or exceed the statistically calculated mechanical property value with a confidence of
95 percent.
S Basis: Svalues are minimum values given in the material specifications and standards. Their
statistical bases are not defined.
Longitudinal Direction: Direction parallel to the flow in a worked material (grain direction).
Long Transverse: Transverse direction having the largest dimension (width direction).
Short Transverse: Transverse direction having the smallest dimension (thickness direction)
Solution heat treatment: Heating
the alloy to a suitable temperature, waiting at that temperature
long enough to allow constituents to dissolve and rapid cooling to hold the constituents in
solution.
Modulus of elasticity (Young’s
modulus): The rate of change of unit tensile or compressive stress with
respect to unit tensile or compressive strain for the condition of uniaxial
stress within the proportional limit.
Poisson’s ratio: The ratio of lateral unit strain to longitudinal unit strain under the condition
of uniform and uniaxial longitudinal stress within the proportional limit.
Shear stress: A form of a stress acts parallel to the surface (cross section) which has a cutting nature.
Stress: Average force per unit area which results strain of material.
